Australian Football: Mariners Up to Fifth After Win
Nick Montgomery, the coach of Australia’s Central Coast Mariners stated that they will be focusing on giving their best to match after match, after their surprising 2-0 victory against Sydney FC.
In the last season, The Mariners landed in the top six with an available betting odds of 7/4 on 365bet to repeat it again and reach the finals in the 2021/22 A-League drive.
A steady beginning
Montgomery took over the coaching duties of The Mariners following the exit of former coach Alen Stajcic during the final stretch of the last season’s tournament, and they are actually doing well after the transition.
The squad managed to grab two victories from their first four matches at the A-League competition and they’re on their way to their fifth and will go against Western Sydney Wanderers.
During the first half of the match at the Gosford Stadium, Central Coast dominated the game and put on a finishing touch with two ultrasonic goals to end it.
The first stunning goal was made by Marco Urena who managed to present an impressive finish with the help of energetic forward Moresche and versatile midfielder Oliver Bozanic who provided the long-range pass.
The next goal was made by defender Lewis Miller from Mariners who after having trouble dealing with Sydney player Anthony Caceres managed to score 2-0, two minutes after the first goal of the team.
The game-plan works
Following the surprise win, Montgomery was very ecstatic and he believed that his game-plan worked.
“We always put our best foot forward in every start of the season and we knew that they had their own strategy in every game. We put in our minds that we needed to start it right and in that way we maybe cast a little doubt in their minds,” Montgomery said in an interview after the victory of his team.
“We knew that Sydney means business and they don’t want to waste time. We are glad that they did their best and gave us an interesting fight.”
“The season is still fresh, however, let’s just hope that we can maintain this good record throughout the season and we also hope that a few members of my team will recover from their injuries,” he added.
New deals
Last November, Nick Mongomery added Max Balard to the roster of Central Coast Mariners. Balard signed a full-time deal for the A-League before the season started.
Ballard said that it was his dream to be a part of the squad. He said, ‘It has always been my dream to sign my first senior contract and it happened with the football club that I admire. I am deeply grateful to the club for aiding me to achieve one of my dreams, especially Sergio and Monty.”
Aside from Balard, a fresh talent also was added to the team roster. Damian Tsenekis is also a newcomer who recently signed a deal to be a part of the Central Coast Mariners.
Montgomery said that both Max and Damian will be perfect assets to the team, showcasing their skill set on the pitch in the next season.
However, the most significant addition to the squad happened in October, when Brazilian striker Moresche signed a deal with the Mariners.
Moresche came from the Singapore Premier League, and he is known to be a formidable opponent on the field and his skills of scoring goals.
Final Words
The Central Coast Mariners are definitely killing it during this current season. Coach Monty has faith in the abilities of his side to work their way from match to match. Let’s just hope and bet that they can maintain this smooth patch for long all throughout the season.
